Site Relationships

These pieces represent my response to the theme of site relationships. They are intended to challenge the assumptions we make that ceramic objects should be placed safely on a surface. The pots are thrown and, while being taken off the wheel, are reshaped in such a way that they must be sited to overhang an edge. The Raku firing and crackle glazes emphasise the fragility of the pots and their precarious positioning. It is hoped that the design and character of these pots evoke a response from the viewer, an instinctive protective reaction to save the pot from falling.
